Bay Area coloratura soprano, Lauren Rietzel Black, has been singing as long as she could remember. Lauren started her career as Shirley Temple in Standing Room Only at the prime age of 8 and hasn’t looked back. While in grade school, Mrs Black was an active voice in various school and church choirs. During this time, she also studied classical piano with Bill and Wyliea Hobbs. In high school, Lauren was appointed as a substitute and theory teacher for younger piano students.
Lauren graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor Degree in Vocal Performance. Here she premiered the role of Angelica in Neo Art song Magazine, and performed in various musical theater and opera scenes. After graduating, Lauren spent two years expanding her vocal horizon with the bay area barbershop quartet, On a Rainbow. During this time she also sang with the Douglas Morrison Theater in their musical production of Little Women as Meg. Along with performing, Lauren currently shares her passion of music by teaching others. She hopes to inspire them as well as to help them reach their full potential. Lauren obtained her master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy from Holy Names University under the tutelage of Eric Howe. While at Holy Names, Lauren performed the role of Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Lauren was also an active voice in the opera scenes program for two seasons, under the guidance of Monroe Kanouse. Until 2014, Lauren was on the faculty as an advanced voice and piano instructor at Inspire Music, located in San Francisco. In 2014, Lauren and her husband made the trek to their new home, in Bozeman, Montana. When she is not teaching, Lauren enjoys hiking in the mountains, and running, a lot. |
